Repair PDF addresses the frustrating moment when a file will not open — perhaps it was truncated during download, partially written, or handed over from a faulty USB stick. We are straight about what an in-browser tool can and cannot fix: if a file is merely slightly malformed, re-opening and re-saving it locally with pdf-lib sometimes restores a readable copy. But deeply corrupted or half-written files often cannot be rebuilt without server-grade recovery software, and we will not pretend otherwise. The honest first step is usually to re-download the original from the source. This page explains that, and offers the local re-save attempt, without asking you to upload a broken file to a stranger’s server — which is the last thing you want to do with a damaged document of unknown contents.

A file that will not open stops work cold. A downloaded contract arrived truncated and will not display. A USB stick coughed up a half-written report. An email attachment is corrupted in transit. A scanned archive will not load in a reader. In each case the instinct is to “fix it online,” but uploading a damaged file of unknown contents to a repair website is exactly the wrong move — you may be handing over something sensitive to an unknown party. We steer you to the safer path: try a local re-save, which sometimes patches minor damage, and otherwise get a clean copy from the source. That keeps the file on your device and respects both its privacy and its limits. We would rather be honest that some files cannot be salvaged in-browser than pretend a button can resurrect anything.

How it works & privacy

This page does not upload your file. Where possible, it re-opens and re-saves the PDF locally with pdf-lib, which can fix minor structural issues. If the file is severely damaged, the realistic advice is to obtain a fresh copy from the original source rather than trust a partial repair.
